Port Alice was a pulp mill village on a deep inlet, built for the mill and dependent on it. When the mill went for good the town lost its employer, and house prices found a new level that has very little to do with what the buildings cost to replace.
What did not change is the setting. A sheltered inlet, mountains straight out of the water, fishing and diving that people travel a long way for. The village is thirty kilometres off the main highway down its own road, which keeps it quiet and keeps it out of the way in equal measure.
You are buying a discount and an isolation, together. They are the same thing. Anyone weighing this town needs to be honest about the second half before being pleased about the first.
