Vancouver Island has some of the highest property taxes in British Columbia. Many people who live on the island say that they are struggling to keep up with the high cost of living. The average homeowner on Vancouver Island pays $3,890 in property taxes each year. This is more than double the provincial average of $1,832. Some people have suggested that the province should provide relief for Vancouver Island homeowners. Others say that the high cost of living is just a part of life on the island.
