Vancouver Island has a long and rich history. First inhabited by the Coast Indigenous peoples, the island was later explored by Europeans in the 17th century. In 1778, Captain James Cook became the first European to land on Vancouver Island.

Since then, the island has seen a number of changes. It became a crown colony in 1849 and was later amalgamated into the province of British Columbia in 1866. Today, Vancouver Island is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful scenery and friendly people.
