Trusted and Making a Real Difference
During the COVID-19 pandemic, my community faced the highest property assessments on Vancouver Island, with values increasing by over 100 percent in just three years. Homeowners were seeking answers and needed guidance through the BC Assessment appeals process. That is when I stepped in, leading a mass appeal that secured significant reductions for 40 homeowners, many of whom were seniors on fixed incomes.
As a result of these efforts, our community went from having the highest property assessments on Vancouver Island to the lowest in back-to-back years. The impact went beyond the numbers and made a real difference. I secured over 15 million dollars in property value reductions and more than 75 thousand dollars in property tax refunds. Rather than accepting monetary compensation, I requested donations to our local food bank, raising 6,750 dollars. This community-first approach has earned the trust of my neighbours year after year.
Our story gained widespread attention, covered more than 17 times and syndicated over 100 times in newspapers and media across the province. What resonated most was not just the numbers, but the story of everyday homeowners standing up to the BC government and winning, something that rarely happens.
This David versus Goliath fight has inspired countless people. Seeing a trusted expert guide homeowners to victory has solidified my reputation and earned recognition through these people’s choice awards. The trust and loyalty I have built with homeowners continues to grow, and so does the momentum.
